8.1 - Instruments

8.1.1 - How can I connect my Yamaha USB keyboard to my computer and use Digital Music Notebook?

To connect your keyboard to your computer:

  1. Physically connect your keyboard and your computer using the cables provided
  2. Install the latest USB-MIDI driver
  3. Setup the MIDI device (in this case, your keyboard) in Digital Music Notebook

Here are detailed instructions:

(For device specific detailed information about connecting your keyboard to your computer, please consult your owner's manual.)

  1. Install the latest USB-MIDI driver here
  2. Open Digital Music Notebook. Select the option Setup MIDI Device... from the Setup menu
  3. Choose the appropriate driver at the pull-down menu titled MIDI Input device and MIDI Output device. The options displayed are dependent on your particular instrument. A likely example choice would be YAMAHA USB IN ... and YAMAHA USB OUT...

(note: Due to a limitation of Windows 2000/XP, please ensure that your instrument is turned ON and connected to your PC before you start the Digital Music Notebook application. Failing to do so may deem your instrument un-detected when the Digital Music Notebook is started.

8.2 - Titles

8.2.1 - I can't find my purchased titles from within Digital Music Notebook

If you have purchased a title previously and it does not appear in your Digital Music Notebook or appears but is not marked as purchased then you can check the status by viewing the order history on the Digital Music Notebook webpage.

  1. Start up the Digital Music Notebook application
  2. Click the Website button at the top right hand corner of the screen to visit the digitalmusicnotebook.com site
  3. Click the My Account menu at the site menu, and login to My Account
  4. Click View Order History. When you go to the order history page, Digital Music Notebook will automatically update all of the authorized titles you have purchased

The titles should all now appear correctly in Digital Music Notebook.

If for any reason this automatic process doesn't work, please try downloading manually by doing the following:

  1. Visit www.digitalmusicnotebook.com with your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer)
  2. Search for the package you want to download by using the search box
  3. At the product detail page, click the Download Now! button on the left side of the page
  4. On the next page (product download page), you'll find a click here link at the lower right corner. When prompted, remember the download location as you will need this file for the next step

Once you've downloaded a package, you will need to import it into the Digital Music Notebook.

  1. Startup the Digital Music Notebook application. Make sure to remember where you downloaded the file.
  2. Select File->Import... and find the package. Ensure that the Copy to Local Folder checkbox is checked to save confusion later.

Now, revisit the website and view the Order History once more. The title will now be installed.

The titles should all now appear correctly in the Digital Music Notebook.

8.2.2 Why can't I record my original music from within the Digital Music Notebook application?

The recording function available with the Digital Music Notebook is only intended to allow you to record your performance based on a particular title. To be able to record your input you firstly need to load one of the available titles (i.e. digital sheet music) from within Digital Music Notebook.

The Digital Music Notebook application doesn't have any function to create original Digital Music Notebook package files.
